The thing that amazes Kluger is that sometimes things that appear simple are actually pretty complicated. This doesn&#8217;t seem quite so astonishing for me, and Kluger&#8217;s sense of amazement wears rather thin with chapter-after-chapter of meandering semi-coherence. Maybe he draws it all together in a staggering conclusion; I wouldn&#8217;t know because I didn&#8217;t get that far. I suspect not, though.</p>
